   Amputee Program

Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital is a 90-bed JCAHO1-accredited rehabilitation hospital and has been accredited by CARF2 for the following programs:

  • Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs – Hospital (Adults)
  • Brain Injury Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs – Hospital (Adults)
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs – Hospital (Stroke Specialty Programs)
  • Spinal Cord System of Care (Adults)

The Amputee Program at Pinecrest provides interdisciplinary rehabilitation services on an inpatient basis to people who have undergone amputations and to those who are receiving prosthetics. Patients may elect to return to Pinecrest after prosthetic fitting for comprehensive rehab. The overall goal is to optimize functional abilities.

Therapeutic Objectives

  • Restore the individual to a productive and satisfying life within the scope of his or her rehabilitation potential.
  • Incorporate the individual's family members and significant others as members of the rehabilitation team by providing education, support and training.
  • Utilize a team approach, including physiatry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, prosthetics, psychology, case management, nursing and family.
  • Focus with psychology on psychological aspects of adapting and adjusting to physical change such as grieving, self-image issues, role changes, lifestyle changes, and family needs. The overall goal is to maximize physical and emotional well-being and quality of life.

Prosthetic Monitoring and Education

  • Professional staff monitor skin integrity and prosthetic wear throughout the day.
  • Training in gait and ADL activities with prosthetic.
  • Patient and caregiver education on prosthetic use.

What Sets Us Apart

  • Acute medical management on the campus of Delray Medical center.
  • Levels of care that facilitate an individual's recovery - our continuum of care includes acute rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation.
  • Qualified and experienced staff, including physical and occupational therapists, who work with a prosthetist.
  • Education in accessing leisure and community resources.
  • Individual and family support and counseling.
  • Availability of in house licensed clinical psychologists to assist with coping and adjustment needs.
  • We offer outpatient prosthetic training.
  • You will be scheduled for therapy a minimum of three hours a day for five days a week.

Admission Criteria

  • A referral by a local physician, hospital social services or by personally calling the Admissions Department.
  • An evaluation by a patient referral coordinator.
  • A review by the Pre-admission Screening Committee to determine rehabilitation potential.

Choosing a Rehabilitation Program

The medical community offers multiple choices for rehabilitation care and it may be difficult to determine which level of care is appropriate. At Pinecrest, we are available to answer your questions. In addition, we strongly encourage families and referral sources to tour the hospital and meet members of the treatment team. Only by understanding the rehabilitation process can an informed decision be made.
